ANEDiS powered by Netceed and SachsenGigaBit: Framework agreement enables XGS-PON standard of multi-gigabit bandwidths for end customers

Berlin, Dresden, 26 February 2024: The system integrator ANEDiS powered by Netceed and SachsenGigaBit, provider of Internet, telephony and multimedia services in Saxony, today announced the successful start of a future collaboration. The framework agreement paves the way for the use of XGS-PON technology for all future fibre optic expansion projects of SachsenEnergie AG, which will be implemented under the operational responsibility of SachsenGigaBit. Customers in Saxony will thus be able to surf faster and more energy-efficiently in a future-proof, high-performance XGS-PON access network and make optimum use of multi-gigabit products. With the XGS-PON networks, which represent the latest expansion standard for passive optical networks (PON), SachsenGigaBit is taking over the technology leadership in Saxony for private end customer networks.

Technology leadership for private end customer networks in Saxony

“SachsenGigaBit customers are the first in Germany to benefit from the new XGS-PON standard, which enables multi-gigabit bandwidths,” explains Jan Müller, Managing Director of ANEDiS powered by Netceed, adding: “At 10 Gbit/s symmetrically, XGS-PON offers four times more bandwidth than GPON and many times more compared to DOCSIS 3.1 or VDSL networks.” A positive and sustainable side effect is that the significantly faster XGS-PON standard can reduce power consumption by up to 80%. An open access approach is also being realised, which will avoid unnecessary and resource-consuming superstructures in the future. In addition to the impressive data rates, the open access approach will also provide all customers and tenants in the housing industry with a wider choice of internet service providers, which will increase the attractiveness of the properties and is a key advantage of SachsenGigaBit’s strategic open access approach.

“The challenge of finding an experienced partner with the necessary expertise for the conceptualisation and system integration of an open access network has been met with the commitment of ANEDiS powered by Netceed,” explains Thomas Eibeck, Managing Director, SachsenGigaBit. “The system integrator has a reliable network of innovative and established suppliers as well as sufficient resources to implement such a technology package and ultimately realise a successful solution.

Implementation of the federal government’s gigabit strategy – fibre optics for all

With this project, SachsenGigaBit is setting standards and demonstrating what gives the forward-looking expansion strategy for network operators of all sizes a tailwind with regard to the federal government’s gigabit initiative: “We are delighted about the future-oriented partnership with ANEDiS powered by Netceed. It is another milestone for us in the implementation of the federal government’s gigabit strategy and our own corporate strategy,” says Eibeck.
